Preparing Monolayer of Mixed Gold and Nickle Nanoparticles

A simple solution self-assembly method has been used to form a monolayer with mixed Ni and Au nanoparticles. A two-step sequential soaking approach was used in the process.

The density of Ni and Au particles can be varied by changing the soaking sequence of the solution containing individual nanoparticles. However, the nanoparticles aggregated when self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were soaked in the solution of mixed nanoparticles.

Such monolayer of mixed Ni and Au nanoparticles may have potential application in the controlled growth of carbon nanofibers, where Ni nanoparticles can serve as the catalyst for the formation of the nanofibers.
