Electrospun MgO/Nylon 6 Hybrid Nanofibers for Protective Clothing

Nattanmai Raman Dhineshbabu et al. have recently studied the synthesis of MgO nanoparticles, the incorporation of the particles into nylon 6 nanofibers, and the coating of the nanofibers on cotton fabric.

They use the method of calcination and grinding to fabricate MgO nanoparticles from natural resource and the electrospinning technique to fabricate MgO/Nylon 6 hybrid nanofibers. A series of tests were done to investigate the physical, mechanical, and antimicrobial properties of the hybrid fabrics. The results confirm that cotton fabrics coated with MgO-based nylon 6 hybrid nanofibers have an enhanced mechanical properties, flame resistance and antibacterial activity. Therefore, cotton fabrics coated with MgO-based nylon 6 hybrid nanofibers are good choice for protective clothing for soldiers.
